ParticipantHi all,
The website calendar informs us that I am going to lead an estuary paddle on Sunday 28 June. This is, in fact, a little untrue because what I am going to lead is a trip on the historic Exeter Canal.
Mystified by the Exeter Canal? Well, just to keep the mystery going, Editor Paul Hewson produced an article for the October 2025 newsletter which will shed some light onto the subject. I’m sure that you remember it, but just in case it has slipped your mind have a wee look here.
https://www.ppca-canoe-club.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/2025_10_newsletter.pdfWe will meet at the car park adjacent to Double Locks in Exeter. What3words gives expect.menu.icon
A little note about this car park. It is on a private road that leads to the Double Locks pub. I did a quick reccy a few weeks ago and found that people were happily parking there and using the canal, and that no-one was aware of any problems. Most importantly they were parking free of charge.
There are no toilets.
From this car park there is a path to the canal and the launch site is maybe 100 yards along the tow path.
We will paddle to Turf Lock, approx. 3.5 miles away, have lunch and return. To save you getting your calculators out that is a total of approx. 7 miles. There is a pub at Turf Lock should you want a tourist type lunch.
Let’s be on the water at 10:45.
This trip is open to all craft. Kayaks, canoes, sit on tops and paddleboards are all welcome.
I don’t do Facebook, so if you have read this on Facebook and decide to reply there, I will not see it. Can you reply either by posting on the club forum, or by text / WhatsApp to my mobile number please. Thanks.
I am not expecting things to change but I will post again on Friday just to confirm.

ParticipantHi all,
As expected, there is no reason for this not to go ahead, so go ahead it will.
See you on Sunday.

ParticipantHi All,
I’m just wondering if anyone is going to come along to this? It would be easy to find something else to do.
Can you let me know, please?

ParticipantIt seems like the Exeter Canal doesn’t appeal. This trip is cancelled.
