See the message below for what looks like a fabulous expenses paid trip to the Isles of Scilly to provide cover for inter-island swimmers in June. Roland Kelly’s contact details are at the bottom of the message. Bob

I’m writing to ask if any members of your club would help ÖtillÖ put on the first Scilly Swimrun event over the weekend of 18th and 19th June 2016 by providing kayak support.

ÖTILLÖ (Island to Island) is a unique race in a unique environment. Teams of two race together from island to island. The teams swim between the islands and run on them. The total distance is 40-45 kilometres of which 10 km are open water swimming and 30-35 km are trail running. The race hosts some of the best endurance athletes in the world. Ironman triathletes, multisport stars, elite military teams, endurance junkies and nut cases. Following a Scilly Swimrun recce I completed last July ÖTILLÖ decided to locate its UK qualifier for the World Swimrun Championships on Scilly.

During the Scilly Swimrun kayakers would shepherd teams swimming between islands, provide assistance and guidance if requested and contact the race Director (radios will be provided) if a team or team member is distressed and in need of immediate attention. Two emergency support craft will be moving around the course and able to attend any situation within minutes of being notified.

Kayakers would need to be on the Islands from the afternoon of Friday 17th June to the morning of Monday 20th June. Although the work itself will be unpaid ÖtillÖ will pay the following expenses:
    1. parking at Penzance
    2. passage on the Scillonian to and from St Mary’s, IoS, including freight charge for a kayak.
    3. accommodation on the Islands, but this will have to be camping; and
    4. food during the weekend .
Generally, kayakers shouldn’t have any expenses while staying on the Isles of Scilly except for personal expenses.

I’d be extremely grateful if you could circulate this to members and request they email me if interested.
