ParticipantHi all,
Just an early heads up that I’m running the first of our estuary paddles this Sunday, 12 April.
High tide is predicted to be at 14:38 reaching a height of a mere 4.1 metres. There won’t be a lot of water or tidal movement.
We’ll launch at 12:30 from the slipway adjacent to the car park in Old Ferry Road, Saltash. What3words gives clock.kind.shiny This is a free car cark and there are loos nearby. The plan is to explore the lower Lynher estuary and to have a late lunch.
This trip is open to all craft. Short kayak, sea kayak, canoe, sit on top or paddle boards. The distance will be roughly the same as a Saturday rec paddle.
Club boats are available for this trip. To book a club boat please contact equipment officer Pete Anderson via or 07958 694434. You will need to be able to transport these yourselves.
Whilst not important it would be nice to have an idea of who is coming, so if you could let me know that would be much appreciated. I don’t do Facebook, so if you have read this on Facebook and decide to reply there, I will not see it. Can you reply either by posting on the club forum, or by text / WhatsApp to my mobile number please. Thanks.
So excited.

ivorParticipantTracy and I are potentially interested but it depends on the weather. It’s currently forecast to be 15mph westerlies blowing straight down the Lynher which may not be too much fun in an open boat.

ParticipantIvor and Tracy, it may be a bit breezy for the canoe. You could always borrow proper boats from the club.
Thanks for letting me know, Jo, see you on Sunday.

ivorParticipantI’ve always preferred improper paddling.

ParticipantHi all,
CHANGE OF PLAN.
I’ve had a look at the forecast for Sunday. There is a force 4 ESE wind forecast, which means that paddling the Lynher estuary would leave us completely exposed to this wind. So, instead we will play on the Dart estuary. The Dart valley is steep and deep so we should find a fair bit of shelter.
We will now meet in the Longmarsh Car Park in Totnes. What3words gives meanders.joined.sway All day parking is £6.30.
We will launch at 12:30 and paddle downstream to find somewhere for lunch. After lunch we will paddle as far up Bow Creek as the tide will allow us to before returning to Totnes.
Sorry for the change of plan but in the circumstances, this will hopefully be more enjoyable day out.

ParticipantHi all,
YET ANOTHER CHANGE OF PLAN.
I have been advised that there is a rowing regatta being held in Totnes over this weekend. The rowing club is situated adjacent to the car park that we were going to use so parking will be difficult and the river will be busy. So:
The new plan (and hopefully the final plan) is to launch at Halton Quay on the Tamar estuary. What3words for Halton Quay is succumbs.cheek.goodness Launching at 12:30 we will lunch either at Cothele Quay or Calstock. Hopefully we can paddle on to Morwellham Quay after lunch before returning to Halton Quay.
The good news is that parking at Halton Quay is free. The bad news is that there will be mud. Or, put another way, the even better news is that there are mud spa facilities at Halton Quay. There are no loos.
Once again apologies for the change of plans.
See you tomorrow.
