The following came into the club inbox today. As usual, posting here is not an endorsement. For more info contact Michael Kirkham direct at outwardleisure@gmail.com

    Hey guys,

My name is Michael and for the past few months now I have been making and selling paddle leashes and other kayak/canoe equipment which are proving to be very popular on Ebay. My prices direct to you would be a lot cheaper than my price on Ebay and especially more if purchased in multiple quantities.

The leashes are 1m long and made from 4mm bungee cord and come in 6 different colours. I can sell them to you for £2 each including delivery.

I also sell different types of fixings for canoes/kayaks and a variety of cord loops/guides etc, all at very cheap prices!

Please get in touch if this sounds like something you might be interested in! I have attached a couple of pictures just to show what the leashes look like.

My ebay store page is http://www.stores.ebay.co.uk/Outward-Leisure
    Facebook page (newly started) https://www.facebook.com/KayakandCanoeAccessories

    Kind regards

    Michael

    Hello all

    No no no.

I am going to stick my neck out here on the subject of paddle leashes. An elastic leash is a very bad idea. When it breaks under full stretch (which is likely during a rescue for example) you and your fellow paddlers risk an eye injury. The sailing community moved away from using elastic/bungees with hard things (including knots) attached to the end a long time ago for this very reason. People have been permanently injured and it is now considered bad practice.

I have no intention in pitching into the debate of “to leash or not to leash?” If you want to leash your paddle, use a non-elastic method and stay safe.

    Rick (very opinionated as usual)
