This may not come out right in the antiquated envionment we use here (check FB :-))

For those interested in the lower trip, we’ll have to look in the morning since levels are predicted to be rising but it would have to be pretty extreme before the lower lower crosses the safe threshold, given the people planning to come. Final confirmation first thing in the morning but expect to meet for 9:30 at the Austin Bridge Layby on the A384 (Come off the A38 as if going to Salmons Leap Cafe but turn SE – layby on the right just before Austin Bridge) and we’ll look and set shuttles etc. I think we have a full group of 6 and I’ll have kit for Sarah Carlson Stansfield. See you in the morning (unless things change :-))

I’m up for Clive’s trip provided he’s happy to accept me on his team 😉

    See you in the morning.

River levels went mad this morning and although it’s dry now there is more rain due from midnight. With this in mind I am going to make the decision that tomorrows trip on the Walkham will be an intermediate trip. My apologies to Jack and to Paul but this one won’t be for you.

For the rest of you I will look at the level again in the morning before making my final decision. If I feel that the level is outside my remit, I may well change this from a club paddle to a peer paddle. I will post here around 08:00.

We will meet at Towerfield Drive, Woolwell, ready to leave at 09:00. (Postcode PL6 7FG). If you intend meeting us at the river then meet at Denham Bridge by 09:30.

    Hi Kevin
We’ll take your advice and join you on the “lower lower”.
Do you still have space for us?

    Julian,

There are spaces but we’ll need to check levels in the morning since even the lower lower was huge today. Current predications are reasonable for 10 to noon but we’ll need to see if reality matches.

If not suitable for the group (none of whom are actually beginners) then we don’t have better options and so will have to cancel.

Still bran of Austin’s bridge but I’ll confirm in the morning.

I’m having trouble with the forum (so appologies if you see multiple copies of this!)

For the LL paddle: Just had a chat with Ken and we’ll check levels in the morning. Depending on which forecast you believe, it might be completely unreasonable to do this paddle, in which case we won’t.

I’ll try to post definitively by 8:00 here (and FB if that’s easier) so there are no unnecessary trips.

You can ping me on 07800 600276 if that’s easier.

Those rain dancing might have been a bit too successful 🙂

    Morning all,

The Walkham is looking good. Let’s go paddling.

For the beginner paddlers: Sorry folks, the Austin Bridge gauge is showing above the level the Club set for a beginners’ trip and slightly rising, so I’m afraid we have to cancel today. 🙁

    Safety first, after all.

    Next time …

Well, here I am on the antiquated but excellent and relatively secure PPCA forum to say how smug I feel because the Walkham trip was a whole bunch of fun. My decision to make it an intermediate paddle proved to be correct and our 9 paddles all ended up wearing smiles.

We had no swimmers, which is very rare for a club trip on the Walkham, so well done to all of you especially to Sean who completed his first ever successful run of the infamous Slot and Drop.

Well done also to Keta for making paddling look so easy.

My thanks to George for leading the second group and to all of you for your company.

See you all in December. (Hopefully.)

    Clive A.
