ParticipantThe Tuesday evening sea kayak skills sessions have proved popular and useful, oh, and a trifle damp. Thanks to all of you that have turned up in a suitable frame of mind to play my somewhat testing games and thanks to Rick Cooper for providing some seriously good coaching.
We have further sea kayak sessions planned for every Tuesday in June, (thanks to Jenny Nicholls and John Mitchell who have agreed to take on my rec paddle commitments). The aim of these sessions is to re-learn the skills that we may have lost over the years and to learn new safety and rescue techniques. If you have sea kayak experience then don’t be shy, come along to these sessions, you will not fail to become a better paddler, and don’t think that you aren’t good enough because you are.
Plastic club boats are available for these sessions on a first come first served basis.
There will be no sea kayak session on Tuesday 31 May.

InactiveHere’s a suggestion – let’s all bring along any/all safety kit we would normally take when sea kayaking. The Tuesday evening sessions are a great opportunity to practice with the kit we would usually carry on a trip. Things that spring to mind are spare paddles, tow lines, contact tows, pumps/balers/sponges (very handy indeed), head protection, paddle floats, survival bags, repair/first aid kits, radios, deck bags etc.
Not an exhaustive list, but you get the idea. We can all learn from each other, especially when we see stuff in action. It’s also good to carry out rescue drills with the stuff you would normally be wearing, such as a BA with bulging pockets full of chocolate, instead of the “slimline Tuesday evening wear” version. Finding your VHF antenna trying to pick your nose during a swift attempt at self-rescue is a clue that you might want to relocate it to somewhere else. Speaking of noses, Noseclips – I haven’t seen anyone wearing them during club trips so maybe trying a few of the drills without them would be a good idea. At least a roll or two – you probably won’t have noseys on when you get unexpectedly rolled on a rockhopping session!
Continuing thanks to Clive for these sessions – you godda gud thang goin’ on…

ParticipantSea kayak session, Tuesday 21 June.
I ache. It must be Wednesday.Next Tuesday’s sea kayak session (21 June) will concentrate on towing. Please bring along any towing equipment you have.
For Bob’s benefit I’m going to pretend that this will be a dry session. Oh how I laughed.
See you on Tuesday.

ParticipantI’ve just had a message from Rick who informs me that he cannot make it tonight. As a result we will run the towing session next week and I will make up the entertainment tonight.
Sorry Bob, it will quite possibly be wet.
Tee hee

ParticipantWell, that was all jolly good fun wasn’t it? Not only that but it was all very useful as well.
My thanks to Rick for his valuable input but most of all thanks to all of you who turned up and joined in with such enthusiasm.
I’m now looking forward to not aching on Wednesday mornings.
