ParticipantHi all,
On Saturday 6 May you lucky people have the choice of two club trips. I am running the “first Saturday of the month” sea kayak trip and Terry is running the “first Saturday in the month” short paddle. Terry has posted elsewhere that the short paddle will be “The official PPCA coronation celebration paddle.” Thus, by default, my sea kayak trip must be “The official PPCA coronation non-celebration paddle.”
To attend the short paddle you must either:
1) Be a royalist or
2) Pretend that you are a royalist.By contrast, to attend the sea kayak trip you can:
1) Be a royalist who would prefer to have a longer paddle and will celebrate the coronation at another time.
2) Be ambivalent about the royal family and would rather go on a longer paddle than join in the celebrations. (That’s where I am for anyone interested.)
3) Be a more traditional Plymothian, lean towards being a roundhead rather than a cavalier and leave the celebrations to others.
4) Be the type of person that looks at the Royal Citadel, with its guns trained over the civilian population of Plymouth, and think that the soap opera that is the British Royal Family is not for you.Whatever your views, all of you are welcome to join the sea kayak trip. The aim is to make it both diverse and inclusive.
There are two conditions for joining the sea kayak trip:
1) You paddle a sea kayak. Club boats are available for this trip. To book a club boat please contact equipment officer Pete Anderson via equipment@ppca-canoe-club.org.uk or 07958 694434.
2) Minimum dress code for this trip is a buoyancy aid. Atmospheric condition will probably dictate that you will wear rather more than just a buoyancy aid, but that’s up to you. If you are now imagining a jolly quip involving the crown jewels, then shame on you.We will meet at Mount Batten ready to be on the water at 10:00. As usual bring lunch and any safety equipment that you may have.
It goes without saying that this is all weather dependant.

ParticipantHi all,
Three little snippets for you. On Saturday Charlie Boy is being coronated as our King, the weather is forecast to be wet and windy and the sun shines on the righteous, as the saying goes. Do you think could there be any correlation?
Anyway, on to Saturday’s sea kayak trip. There is going to be a bit of a breeze on Saturday, exactly how much breeze depends on which forecast site you care to look at, but they all agree that the wind will be generally from a southerly quarter. It’s full moon on Friday which means spring tides and a low tide at around 13:00, so plenty of places to stop for lunch but nowhere to hide from the wind. Also, there is a bit of rain in the forecast.
I will go ahead with this paddle but reserve the right to change my mind when we see what conditions are on Saturday. If you are intending to join me can you please check that your paddling skills match the predicted weather conditions and make a suitable decision. It would be nice to know who is intending to come along, not least of all because I don’t want to be sitting on my own at Mount Batten!
