ParticipantHi all,
I’m running a sea kayak away day on Sunday 18 August. I will make a bit of a plan and post again on Thursday.
Club boats are available for this trip. To book a club boat please contact equipment officer Pete Anderson via equipment@ppca-canoe-club.org.uk or 07958 694434.

ParticipantHi all,
At risk of causing a hurricane I will state that the weather for Sunday looks good. Force 2 – 3 W wind, 20 degrees temperature and half a sun. What more could you want?
Low tide Devonport is predicted at 11:34 so if we launch at West Looe and complete a one-way paddle to Mount Batten, we will have the tide (and wind) behind us all the way. The distance from West Looe to Mount Batten is approx. 19 miles (not knots) so guess what my plan is? Well done.
I have spoken to the very lovely Mrs Coulson who has kindly volunteered (after much snivelling and grovelling on my part) to act as shuttle bunny and to transport drivers back to Looe from Mount Batten at the end of our paddle, thus saving us from having to re-trace our paddle strokes until very late into the night! Three cheers for the very lovely Mrs Coulson.
The plan is to launch at West Looe at 10:00. We will meet adjacent to the Island View café on Marine Drive. What3words gives the location as soils.tearfully.alike
There are two good reasons for launching at west Looe:
1) Free on street parking.
2) Free loos
We kayakers like “free” don’t we?If you are coming, can you send me a text to let me know please? That way I can advise you should there are any last-minute changes to the plan.
I won’t have access to face book and won’t see any comments posted there.
I will post again on Saturday just to confirm details.

ParticipantHi all,
Well, the forecast is still good so this will go ahead as planned. Ready to launch at West Looe at 10:00. Here are a few things to consider:
1) The lovely Mrs Coulson has agreed to run the shuttle for us. The lovely Mrs Coulson doesn’t own a Tardis but has a fairly normal car, thus she is limited to taking a maximum of 4 drivers. It would be helpful if we could have as few cars left at Looe as possible.
2) The lovely Mrs Coulson probably won’t be very amused should people try to get into her car wearing wet paddling gear. Have a good think and plan a strategy whereby you have dry clothes to change into at Mount Batten.
3) We can store our boats in the club sheds whilst the shuttle is taking place.
4) I misled you about the tidal flow. When we launch, we will be paddling into something like a 0.8knot westerly current. This will slacken and at approx. 14:30will turn, thus we will have the current behind us for the last part of the trip. You’d think that an expedition leader would have got this right first time, wouldn’t you? Inspire confidence, doesn’t it?
5) It would still be nice to know who is coming and once again I will make the point that I don’t have access to facebook. A text would be my preferred method for you to advise me of your intention of paddling.See you tomorrow,
Clive A
