ParticipantSaturday Rec Paddle 3rd April
The long wait is finally over and the club can get back to some recreational paddling (yippee). I have the pleasure of leading this Saturdays trip. Although it is the Easter paddle I will be running it as a regular paddle, no fancy dress (unless you wish to) or shared food buffet as in paddles of Easter past.
Sorry if this post goes on a bit but there are a few things to inform the paddlers about.
Although British Canoeing have said there is no restriction on numbers attending an organised paddle. As the coach leading the first club paddle I am putting a limit of around 12 club paddlers. The reason is I and most of you will have had little contact with a large group over the past year. Although as much as I would like unlimited numbers to come along, for my own stress levels and sanity a slow start and small numbers is the way to go.
We also have to think about social distancing around the sheds. A large group would make this tricky to maintain. I’m sure over the coming weeks we will all get used to mixing in larger numbers and each coach leading the paddle will have their own thoughts on numbers.
The weather for Saturday is looking favourable but a lot cooler than the past few days. Please dress accordingly, the sea temp is in single figures and the air temp will also be similar. Please bring along all of your own safety equipment if you have any, tow lines, VHF, survival bag, first aid etc. Don’t forget a helmet if we get in close for some rock hopping along the way.
Please also post if you are thinking of coming along so I can get an idea of numbers.
The usual time of 10:00 ready to get on the water. The paddle will be back mid afternoon so bring lunch and a hot drink. I think most of us will be rusty so the trip will reflect this and there will also be plenty of opportunity to catch up on the water with friends you have not seen for a while.
See you on Saturday, I’m looking forward to getting out on the water again.Terry
