ParticipantSaturday Rec Paddle 21st July
For those club members who read the various means of communication that the club uses (Facebook, Wet News, this Forum) will have noticed that this coming Saturday is the big coastline clean up (see Tony’s earlier post for details).
I am the nominated coach for this trip and as such will have responsibility for you as is normal for a rec paddle. There is a timeline for the day which means the paddle will be relatively short but this a first for the club and a unique opportunity to get involved in a community event while still enjoying time on the water. As with any paddling plan ‘A’ may change depending on several factors, so please stay flexible and fluid as always!
It would be very helpful and useful to have some other coaches come along otherwise logistically I will be constrained in how much we can do and group control etc. If you are thinking of coming along for the coastline clean up paddle can you please let me know.
It is hoped that the weather conditions will allow open boats to be used. A decision on this will be made on Saturday morning once I see what the sea state and wind is doing locally.
There will be a comprehensive briefing given before we set off as normal covering the paddle and then aspects of the coastline clean.
Please be aware that car parking will be at a premium on Saturday as Mount Batten have a major event going on and the centres car parks will be closed off.
It would be great if we could get a good club turn out for this rec paddle and support the coastline clean up. Normal time on the water ready to paddle for 10:00. Please bring along all your normal paddling kit and some lunch and a drink. We will probably have lunch on Mount Batten beach after we offload all the rubbish from the clean up and meet up with the other groups.

InactiveWell, we only went and done it! To all those who took part in our Coastal Clean Up paddle can I say a huge ‘THANK YOU’, nay, can I say, as the Norwegians would, ‘Tusen Tak’, a 1000 Thank you’s!! What a brilliant turn-out, Terry Calcott you are a star for agreeing to lead the trip, the open boaters, with out your presence our haul of treasure would have been significantly less! Great to see so much enthusiasm, and great to see how much pollution we have removed from our beautiful coastline. A thank you for others who in some way supported the event, Plymouth City Council, Plymouth Beach Clean Volunteers and the Royal Navy!
