ParticipantSaturday Rec Paddle 14th Jan
I had thought about a paddling away day this coming Saturday to Wembury, as there is a nice low spring tide just after 13:00. But the wind gods are acting up and starting to increase in strength over the next few days. Although the direction is NW and some shelter can be had at Wembury the exposed areas are not ideal for a mixed ability club paddle.
The probability is that we will paddle from Mount Batten on the water at 10:00. It will be very chilly out in the wind so plenty of winter layers please and all of your usual safety kit.
Please post or give me a text or email if you are thinking of coming along. I will make a final decision about the venue on Friday.

Ps Linda has put a post on the forum about Penzance sea kayaking, take a look.

ParticipantWell the weather has firmed up for Saturday to a very chilly and brisk NW wind but with plenty of sunny intervals.
We will be paddling from Mount Batten and gain some shelter from the wind close in to the shore. The nice hot showers after the paddle are also a reason for staying local and are at the top of my list ๐
Dont forget those additional layers and hat, gloves, hot drink, food, etc.

ParticipantAfter many years paddling virtually every inch of the Sound, I am still amazed at the fantastic location that we live in.
17 club paddlers ventured out for a sheltered paddle from the NW wind over to the the Barbican in bright sunshine. Tucking in close to the Hoe shore exploring the nooks and crannies. A shout of Kingfisher came and a wonderful glimpse as it moved along the rocks. The warming sun and calm sea is a bonus in January. Just past mid tide on a big spring tide Devils Point proved exciting with some decent water flowing out into the Sound. A ferry glide over to Edgecumbe and lunch below the Ravens Cliffs. Then a short paddle over to the kelp forests on the south side of Drakes Island before a final paddle into the NW wind back over to the Hoe.
One of those winter paddles to warm the heart and lift the spirits. The club rec paddles are open to all club members please come along and give one a go if you have not tried before.
We were also joined by Owen as a guest paddler. As a young teenager he was one of the club rec paddler regulars for many years. It is always nice to see past club members and catch up and join in a club paddle.
