Saturday 14th Sept ‘coast clean’ update

The weather has firmed up nicely for Saturday with sunshine looking likely. It is staying a bit breezy and may limit the use of open boats being used. But I will decide on the morning and see what the local conditions are like.

Thanks for all the interest from club members in coming along to help clean up a small area of our local patch.

We will head out from Mount Batten and target the same area as last year the coast along the Cattewater and as far into the Laira as time allows. Lunch stop will be at Saltram beach.

Ideally we need as many sea kayaks/touring kayaks on the water as possible, it will make carrying full bags of rubbish easier. Club sea kayaks are available to book from Pete Anderson the Equipment Officer.

We will have a safety briefing at 10:00 and launch soon after, probably back around 2:30. Don’t forget lunch and a drink. We will be in and out of our boats several times during the day. Please dress for the likely conditions and wear decent footwear. The club will provide gloves, collecting bags and grabbers.

If you have some spare straps they are useful for strapping full bags on the deck of your kayak.

These litter picks are usually great fun and a good social get together. You need to be a confident paddler and able to paddle around 4-5 miles.

On the return to the slipway Gillian Mann has kindly offered again to coordinate the disposal of what we manage to pick up during the day.

Any questions please ask on this post. Looking forward to seeing lots of club paddlers on Saturday 👍😁
