On Saturday I will drag myself away from gardening in order to lead the club recreational paddle. You can all check the weather for yourselves, but wind and sea conditions are favourable so I thought that this week we’d launch from Mountbatten at 10:00.

I’m sure you all know what to bring but I would highlight a couple of factors that might affect your choices. The traditional tabloid headline for Saturday’s weather reads something like “Phew what a scorcher”. I have seen predictions as high as 27 degrees and both the UV index and pollen counts are very high. The associated risks are hyperthermia, dehydration, sunburn and sneezing. Even the sea is reckoned to be 17 degrees (although it never feels that warm to me in the UK!)

We shall paddle for a bit, have lunch (so bring that too) and then paddle some more to be back between 14:00 and 15:00. There might be exposure to a beach along the way.

Sea kayaks and GP boats will be suitable. If you are a newish paddler and not been on a Saturday recreational paddle before please get in touch.

    See you Saturday, Adam
