    Saturday 10th June Beach Clean

I have the pleasure of leading the beach clean this coming Saturday. Just a few details about what to expect from the day. The weather is starting to firm up for the coming weekend and it is looking good for the beach clean. Hopefully the wind will be light enough for us to take out a few open boats to help carry the rubbish we pick up along the way. I will make a decision about open boats on Saturday morning once I get to MB.

As already mentioned we will meet at Mount Batten ready to paddle at 10:00. All club members are welcome but due to the nature of the activity you must be confident and comfortable paddling around 6 miles. Any questions about this please ask or send me a message.

The beach clean coincides with British Canoeing ‘The Big Paddle Clean Up’ The PPCA clean up will be targeting the less glamourous but hardly ever cleaned Plym Estuary and its environs. It is hoped we can clean the beaches and embankments along the Laira down to Marsh Mills and along to Saltram. Lunch will be at Saltram Beach after 12:00. After lunch we will target the embankment along to Pomphlett Creek, then along past Oreston and a sweep into Hooe Lake. There are lots of small beaches along the way so hopefully we should be able to land and do plenty of picking out of the boats.

Although the route may change on the day depending on the weather.

I know a few paddlers have already said they are coming along on a previous post. Anyone else thinking of coming along please let us know. These events are always fun and a great social occasion with plenty of laughs along the way. Plus you will be helping reduce the serious problem of litter, plastic pollution and the harm to the marine environment.

The club has collecting bags and gloves. I will bring along a couple of sharps boxes. If we cant use open boats then the fleet of sea kayaks can carry full bags on their decks. If you want to pre book a club kayak please contact Pete Anderson, the Equipment Officer.

There will be a detailed briefing before we get on the water at Mount Batten. Please dress for the conditions, it is likely to be warm but cloudy, chance of a shower. If you have any safety equipment please bring it along especially if you have a VHF radio. Bring lunch and plenty of fluids. We should be back at Mount Batten around 2:30 to 3:00.

Any questions please ask. see all of you that can make it on Saturday.

    Terry
