InactiveHopefully PPCA members won’t mind me posting this on here.
Please note this is not strictly a “PPCA” event but I would like to invite any PPCA members or their friends and family along.
DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND the wonderfully refreshing NEW YEAR”S DAY SWIM event will be taking place again at Bovisand this year. ๐
Due to tide times, ( high tide is at 16.54) an afternoon swim is planned this year at 3PM.
Due to the growing popularity of this wonderful event I would be grateful if anyone who is planning to come along could let me know in advance if they are interested in participating. Some gentle points about this event
1 Wetsuits/ drysuits are not compulsory but an appropriate level of festive cheer is obligatory.
2 Swim Safety Award certificates will not be required for inspection but if you are not a proficient swimmer then please stay reasonably close to shore and adopt a swim buddy.
3 Please remember that there is a high chance that you will get quite wet if you participate in this event.
4 In the event that you are a secret agent or do not wish to be filmed during the swim then please let me know in advance and I shall do my best to protect you from the paparazzi that occasionally attend.
5 Please remain clothed for as long as possible and in as many layers as possible until the swim is about to start.
6 You can never have too many layers
7 If people are free for a hot drink afterwards it would be lovely to catch up but it is not compulsory and I understand if you opt to head home for a hot shower instead!
8 It is lots of FUN!!!!Honest!!!!It would be great to see as many of you as possible on New Year’s Day. I hope that 3pm allows sufficient time to digest your lunches and to allow any potential traces of alcohol from the night before to have disappeared.
Despite it being rather early for Christmas greetings, in case I don’t see all of you in the interim period, I wish you all a wonderful Christmas! ๐

ParticipantI think I’ve been talked into this – especially if wet suits are allowed! However, I should point out that, except for the occasional (frequent) involuntary exit from a kayak, I haven’t swum any real distance in many many years ๐ฅ – and then it was usually with fins on …

ParticipantI will be there, without a wetsuit.
It is the only way to do it!December 28, 2017 at 12:09 am #6875Anonymous

InactiveATTENTION SEA SWIMMERS
Due to the predicted surf forecast for tomorrow the venue for tomorrow’s swim has been changed.
As there are a range of swimmer abilities and in order to make the swim safe for everyone I have decided to move the swim to the beach just beside the Artillery Tower Restaurant in Plymouth PL1 3QR.
In the event that the sea is still too choppy there is a back up plan – the outdoor pool adjacent to the Artillery Tower is the alternative option.I appreciate this venue change does mean that some of you will now have to travel across town but I feel safety has to come first. The surf forecast does not lend itself to a New Year’s Day Swim at Bovisand as it might not necessarily be safe or pleasant for everyone hence the alternative plan. I appreciate that not all of you may be able to make it to the new venue but I hope some of you can still join me in a New Year’s Day splash!
If anyone wishes to car share then it may be worth reducing the number of cars as there is limited free parking at the new venue and the Devil’s Point car park is no longer free.
I will be working this evening but will check phone messages in the morning. 079393238981
The meeting time remains 3PM.
If I don’t see you tomorrow then I would still like to wish you all a Happy New Year. ๐ -
