ParticipantHi all
I need to improve my sea kayak rescue & general safety skills. I don’t need to practice these skills in sheltered waters just off the Mount Batten pontoon but need to experience them in more realistic conditions around the Sound.
The skills I want to improve on are things like rolling, rescues, re-entry rolls and anything else that our imaginations can dream up. I have hardly any experience to draw on so these sessions will very much be a case of learning as we go along; the emphasis is on discovery, finding out what works and helping each other to learn. Oh, and hopefully we will have a whole lot of fun.
The Tuesday sessions are not to be confused with the beginners’ sea kayak sessions that Terry is intending to run on Saturday mornings. The Tuesday sessions are intended for those who already have sea kayaking experience but who want to improve.
I have 3 Tuesdays with no commitments and would invite any like minded paddlers to join me. The dates are: May 10, 17 & 24. On the water at 18:00, wet by 18:30 and probably off the water feeling somewhat soggy, cold and tired by 20:00.
Club sea kayaks are available for these sessions on a first come first served basis but will be restricted to the plastic boats.

KeymasterAm definitely up for that as long as you think that up for me, Clive? Will be an alternative to the three star sessions for me but will surely provide good experience for the same. Having failed to get back in my sea kayak without a little assistance yesterday I clearly need the practice…… with added waves.
Yours weakly, Adam

ParticipantSmeg, Old brown wet suit? Can’t wait, I’ll bring a camera especially.
Adam, after much deliberation I have decided to make up my own temperature scale. It will be measured in degrees Clive (C) and will work thus:
All measurements taken at sea level with average barometric pressure.
-1 degree C, sea water becomes solid. (Ice).
0 degrees C, fresh becomes solid.
1 degree C, fresh water is liquid.
3 degrees C, fresh water becomes gas. (Steam. Not to be confused with water vapour).I hope you appreciate the time and effort I have spent on making life so much easier to understand.
I am only ever going to paddle when the temperature is 1 degree C.
Bob, I’m glad someone is adding a bit of decorum to proceedings.

KeymasterHmm, that’ll take some consideration. I like the simplicity. However, my immediate concern is that a drop of just two degrees Clive will put the paddler at risk of being hit by an iceberg – and with a long sea kayak that doesn’t turn too quickly we all know where that might end! Adam
P.S. What’s the weather forecast for tomorrow evening?

ParticipantAdam
I may have to devise a simplified way of predicting weather conditions but at present we will have to stick with convention, so tonight’s weather will be cool (1 degree C) and windy. We should be able to find 3* conditions tonight, how very exciting.

InactiveHello Clive,
Just tried on my old steamer – could barely get into it. Fortunately James has a spare (there`s even room for a hot water bottle inside -is that allowed?)
