    Midsummer(ish) Camp, 20 – 21 June.

I am unable to run this trip but Joy is standing in. I will join you at the camp site.

It’s the eagerly anticipated Midsummer(ish) Camp this weekend. This year’s trip will be from Mount Batten and camping on the National Trust owned beach at Ayrmer Cove, a distance of some 15 miles. (Thanks to Joy & Terry for pointing this out ). For those of you that don’t know Ayrmer Cove is located between Bigbury and Wonwell at grid ref SX 640455. The route will be reversed on Sunday so this trip will involve a total of 30 miles paddling, some of it committing with few escape routes.

The campsite offers no facilities. There is no toilet, no fresh water and no rubbish disposal facility. There is however a pub within walking distance.

The National Trust have been kind enough to allow us to camp so I am suggesting a donation of £3 per person. I will collect this on Saturday evening.

The intention is to be on the water at Mount Batten at 10:00 on Saturday, so please arrive in plenty of time to pack your boat and get yourself ready.

Joy suggests that you bring enough supplies to cater for lunch on Sunday.

We will leave our vehicles in the Mount Batten car park. If you are not a member of Mount Batten you will either need to pay or make alternative arrangements.

If you are intending to come on this trip please either post your intentions here or let Joy know, 07891 221781 or cliveandjoy01@gmail.com

    What jolly fun.

    Clive A.

p.s. Having seen Terry’s post below I have checked the mileage and now make it approx. 15 miles each way. Lets revise the start time to 10:00 on the water on Saturday.

The moral here is that measuring distances using a bungee cord may not produce very accurate results!

Hoping to be there, too, and to learning about the short new route. Fingers crossed our on-again, off-again guests don’t show up — if they do, I’ll be on duty at home (and very welcoming, of course….).

Thanks Joy for leading the trip (aka herding the cats). It’s a stunning bit of coast and expeditions like this really enable us to get close up and personal with it. When we’re not concentrating on making headway against wind and chop, that is… Good company, good chat, and — especially around the camp fire — great laughs.

Thanks for organising things Joy and a specially big thanks to Mr Banjo for allowing us to use his tent as a toilet. Mega thanks to Bob ( I hope he was joking about only having had 5 pints to drink?) Also, does anyone know if Big Jane made it back safely? ( I would have come with you Jane had I not been in a club boat).

Thanks fellow campers for another great midsummer weekend. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Ashford’s, Clive for arranging and Joy for leading us.
My fellow food chums for the slap up meal on the beach. My fellow paddlers for the company on the water and off. A weekend of two very different days paddling, both great sea kayaking days to be remembered.

The camp fire was one of the best ever and the amusing few hours sat around it.

Roll on Roseland and some more sea kayaking.

    Terry 😀

Agree. A most enjoyable mid summer camp had by all.

Jane arrived back to MB before Mary and Merryl had time to drive back with Terry, Mark and their kayaks.

Here’s hoping we have sun and calm seas for the Roseland weekend.

Thanks to Clive and Bob for helping out when we needed to get reunited with our vehicles.
