KeymasterPlymouth Sound National Marine Park recently announced that Classic Builders have been successful in the contract award for the first phase of the Centre’s redevelopment, including a new look ground floor cafe and new changing facilities, aligned to Sport England and Changing Places standards.
As beneficiaries of the National Lottery Heritage Fund (alongside Tinside Lido, Mount Edgcumbe and the National Marine Aquarium as the four main gateways to Plymouth Sound National Marine Park) we welcome the improvement works that will ensure, but are realistic also about the short term disruption that may be caused to our Members, Clubs and Affiliates so need to make you aware of the next phase in the redevelopment process.
From Monday 2nd December:
* The main Centre building will be closed for public access. Access will remain to the car parks, boat yard and changing room corridor accessed via the boat yard, and all boat storage areas for current affiliated members, affiliate user groups, boat park members and University of Plymouth students attending an approved watersports session.
* If individuals from these groups require the support of Mount Batten Centre staff, they should in the first instance report to the main classroom block located in the upper car park. If the classroom block is unattended remote contact details will be posted on the main door. For all other enquiries members can still contact centre staff via enquiries@mount-batten-centre.com
*
* User groups are reminded to be vigilant around security of the site. As proposed at the affiliate meeting on the 27th November it was agreed that if you open a gate, you are then responsible for securing it after use – please assume you are the last user on the site and secure all access gates after use.
* Affiliated clubs can collect mailed club correspondence from the main classroom block. Due to the restricted size of the classroom block and limited availability of our staff team larger deliveries cannot be received. Please ensure delivery to a more suitable address during our redevelopment works.
* Non-members will no longer be able to pay to use the centre’s car parks on a day-to-day basis. Please use the council car parks situated on the peninsula. The centre’s automated number plate recognition system will remain operational and fines will be issued to cars not registered on our system.
We will continue to review the processes on an ongoing basis and welcome feedback to ensure we can help make access as easy as possible. Presently we anticipate this process remaining in place until the 6th January 2025. If there are developments around the Horizons/PSNMP project that necessitate changes to this process, then all relevant affiliated members and user groups will be updated accordingly.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you, our members and user groups for your understanding and flexibility during the capital redevelopment works at the Mount Batten Centre – it’s a transformative project that we’re excited to be a key part of. -
