This weekend is the intro to rivers course.

This is aimed at people who think they might want to try rivers this season and could also be titled “what I wish I’d known before my first river trip”.

It’s open to any club member and will be on flat water (at least on the first day) so we can see where your skill level is at and cover basics in an easy environment. This is your best opportunity to try this aspect of kayaking without the commitment of buying your own kit!

(There are no plans to allow the rental of club boats over the winter so those without kit will only have access through arranged intro sessions like this one.)

    The plan …

    Saturday
Meet at MB for 9 to gather kit
    Drive to Holne for 10
On flat water, we will cover skills like:
Getting in and out of the river
Eddies and how to use them
    Capsizes and swims
    River rescues
    Other basic skills
Aim to finish around 3 (bring lunch or a snack and a drink)
    Dress to get wet

    Sunday
    An easy river trip
Either moving water on the Exe or gentle WW on the lower lower dart (depending on water levels and the skills shown on Saturday)
    We’ll cover:
the mechanics of a river trip
a gentle introduction to river paddling
use of some of the skills practiced
Aim to finish by 3 to get kit back to MB.

If you are intending to come, please complete the form below so we have contact info and so I know who’s coming.
    Any missing details, just ask.

I look forward to seeing some of you on the weekend.
P.S. most of the discussion will be on FaceBook but if you don’t have access to that, I’ll check here as well.
