Well here we are on the penultimate Sunday trip for this season. Where has all that time gone since the beginning of October. This weekend for those of you who are capable Clive has offered to lead an extra trip on the upper Dart, you lucky people! For the rest of us we will be doing the Dart Loop and of course this is all provided that we have enough water in the river to do this. Not a lot of rain on the horizon I am afraid but the weather is a little unpredictable at the moment. Keep your fingers crossed! 😀 😀
We will all meet as usual at the old B&Q Car park at Marsh Mills, if it is still open as I see there were some gates being fitted there last Sunday, ready to leave at 0900hrs. From there we can then divide into our separate groups whatever they are. Beginners please come along as well as there are plenty of places for you to practise your skills and most of the river banks have a path of sorts you can get out at the more difficult sections. The amount of water is probably the deciding factor on the day. As usual I will update on here on Saturday evening which will be between 1800 and 1900 hrs. Rugby duties in the afternoon. Please just leave a short note on here, email, text, phone call whatever as to whether you ARE coming along so that we can make sure we have enough cover safety wise. Might be good to let us know which group you would like to be in as well. If you do have any questions and you wish to speak to me my phone number is 07790293952. Thanks Folks and hope to see you all on Sunday 😀 😀

Lots of water now. A 3.9m swell at sea and 1.23m in the river. OK (at least to the latter), Adam

Hi Ken. Nice to have choices. Thanks Clive. Depending on levels, I think I would like to go with Clive. A bit of rain due overnight so I’ll decide in the morning if that’s okay. Cheers Kitts.

I think there is no doubt that the levels will not be too low tomorrow with the predicted forecast, so a paddle is on as planned. Unfortunately there is a lot of rain forecast for the early morning so I am unable to see what the level will be like until first light on the River Dart cam so meet as arranged and we will take it from there. Just to remind everybody all the sites to see what levels are looking like are on the PPCA web site so you can have a look for yourselves. If you live near to the river and wish to meet us up there please be in the layby by 0930 hrs. I would imagine it is going to be very busy tomorrow
See you all in the morning and bring your Brollies! 😀

Ken, I’m planning on joining Clive on the upper. Having said that the forecast rain is looking like it will be quite heavy. It’s forecast to stop a good 5-6 hours before we get on so with a bit of luck the level should peak just beforehand. If It’s much over the slab I’ll most likely chicken out and do the loop.

Either way see you in the morning.

    Hi boys and girls

In addition to Ken’s note above I am going to look at levels in the morning as well. If there is a chance of running the middle Tavy instead of the upper Dart then that would be my choice but I will wait and see.

I will post my decision on here prior to 08:00 tomorrow morning. How very exciting.

Excited face, happy face, excited face, happy face, excited face.

Well boys and girls, it’s rained, (worried face), but not enough to make a huge difference to our river levels, (relieved face), and definitely not enough for us to run the Tavy. (Sad face). So it’s the Upper Dart for us today.

I know some of you are a bit nervous about running the Upper Dart in high water levels. To give you the best chance of making the right decision for you we will meet at the car park formerly known as Plympton B&Q ready to leave at 09:00, make our way to New Bridge and look at the slab to decide our fate. I promise that I will put no pressure on anyone to run the Upper Dart and expect my fellow paddlers to do the same. The final decision about paddling will be yours to make freely. If you decide that the Upper Dart is not for you today then you can join Ken on the Loop and no-one will think any less of you. (Gosh, serious face, serious face).

Yahoo!!!! See you at B&Q. (Excited face excited face).

Whether to paddle or not is often a hard decision to make but it’s an important skill to have, especially if you want to enjoy paddling on our more advanced rivers.

It’s equally important not to try to persuade people to do something they may be uncomfortable with, I’ve seen that happen all too often and it rarely ends well. We need to give people the space to make up their own minds and then support them accordingly.

Well done to those of you that walked away from the Upper Dart today, I hope you enjoyed the Loop.

    Clive A.
