ParticipantHi all,
Just an early heads up that I am going to run the first of my intermediate sea kayak trips this Saturday, 16 April. This trip is in addition to the normal club recreational paddle that I’m sure will advertise separately in due course.
The aim of my intermediate sea kayak trips is:
1) Paddle a bit further that may be the norm. I hope to cover something in the order of 15 – 20 miles.
2) Paddle away from Mount Batten.
3) In the event of conditions being too difficult to happily accommodate the above paddle in the Sound to experience life on the edge. It’s obviously too early to make plans yet. I will post on Thursday with a plan. In the meantime club sea kayaks are available for this trip. To book a club sea kayak please contact the club equipment officer, Pete Anderson. Either e-mail to equipment@ppca-canoe-club.org.uk or via Pete’s mobile 07958 694434.
Until Thursday then.
Clive A.

ParticipantWell boys and girls, the forecast for Saturday is quite pleasant if a bit cool, so here is the plan for the first intermediate sea kayak trip of the year.
Those of you that are using club boats meet at Mount Batten at 08:45 to load boats and be ready to leave at 09:00. If you are going to use a club boat could you let me know please? If no club boats are being used I won’t need to go to Mount Batten.
We will then meet at 10:00 in the Caffa Mill car park adjacent to the Bodinnick Ferry in Fowey, grid ref SX126522, postcode PL23 1DF. This is a pay and display car park, have some shekels ready.
The aim is to be on the water by 10:30. We will paddle to Gribbin Head then by open crossing to Black Head, stopping for lunch somewhere on the western side of Black Head. After lunch we will hug the coast for our return to Fowey via Charlestown and Polkerris. My trusty old piece of string says this is just over 18 miles.
We should now be suitably fatigued but happy.
If you are going to meet at Fowey can you let me know please? I would hate to go to Fowey to find that I am the only person who thinks that this is a good idea!
See you on Saturday,
Clive A.

ParticipantHi Clive
I am planning on being there to see your beaming smile.
Typed in the postcode and it locates a small house with limited car parking.
Though Readymoney Cove is very scenic. Have paddled in there a few times for to admire the view. But then I was’nt looking for a carpark!I am planning to collect my repaired boat this evening. Or should I say a very patched up boat!
Bye for now,
Jane

ParticipantSorry boys and girls, confusion with the car park.
We will meet at the Caffa Mill car park which is adjacent to the Bodinnick ferry. Grid SX126522, Postcode PL23 1DF.
Thanks to those eagle eyed ones among you who have pointed out my error.
Inspires confidence doesn’t it?

ParticipantClive, This sounds like fun. However I haven’t been paddling for a while, at least nothing too strenuous, so I think I will give this one a miss. I hope to be able to go on the next one that you do. Have a great time.

KeymasterAm looking forward to it Clive. I will bring my intermediate sea kayak. Karen is a bit too limp wristed at present for this, sadly – possibly even for the alternative Brim paddle also.
Perhaps those travelling from Plymouth could liasie re. transport tomorrow evening?
Adam

ParticipantHi Clive, sounds like a great trip and away from Mount Batten, the distance would be OK for me and the sea state but sadly cannot make it, away walking in Lake District, looks snowy. Have a good day. Stephen P

InactiveI’ll be there, Clive. Great route.
Banjo, an hour of rock in each direction sounds irresistible — suggest a meeting-up place, and I’ll take up your offer. I’ll be coming from east of Plymouth on the A38 or A379.

ParticipantHi I can take 3x boats on my car.
So I can help two people with a lift. It would be good if I did not have to go to Mountbatten.
As I live near Marsh Mills we could either meet there or if you were adventurous park outside my house.I will need to collect my boat from Lanlivery which is approx 5 miles from Fowey on the way there.
If you are interested give me a text/Facebook message and I can pick it up.
Bye for now

InactiveThanks for an excellent stretch, Clive. Fun sea conditions across St Austell bay, private sunny beach for lunch, some spectacular bits of coast and caves. More please.
Bob
