COASTAL CLEAN UP PADDLE 15th SEP 2018 – THE SEQUEL!
A recreation paddle with a difference, a paddle to make a difference
Remember Sat 21st Jul? The PPCA Rec paddle conducted a ‘Coastal Clean Up Paddle’ from Cable Beach back to Mountbatten Beach. So two months later let’s go back and see what difference we made, let’s go and do it again, to see what’s been washed up on the beaches! Let’s do another Coastal Clean Up!
So please highlight a date in your diary, Sat 15 Sep 2018, The Sequel! Come along on the rec paddle, and re-visit the remote & inaccessible beaches and continue to remove as much pollution as possible.
Further instructions will be promulgated prior to the paddle.
When: Sat 15th Sep 2018 on the water 10.00am at Mount Batten.

I’m hoping that as many paddlers as possible will turn up for this paddle and coastal clean up.
Sea Kayaks, Rec kayaks, SOT’s and Open boats all welcome.
Lets hope the weather will be nice so we can get a lot of our new club members out on their first Rec paddle.
Can I say a huge “Thank you” to our band of ‘eco-paddlers’ who conducted the Port of Plymouth Canoeing Association’s (PPCA) 2nd Coastal Clean Up paddle yesterday, carefully led and controlled by Joy. The turn out was great considering all the other events the Club had running, a busy weekend! Draw what conclusion you may, but the Club cleaned this same coastline on the 21 Jul and on that event we collected 9 bags of pollution plus lots of large items that couldn’t fit in a bag (see photo below). So less than 2 months later, with half the number of paddlers, we still manage to collect 5 bags plus loose items of pollution! You may notice the lack of rubbish in black plastic bags! Courtesy of the Royal Navy (Thank you!) who donated to the PPCA cotton mesh/net bags with which the paddlers collect the rubbish. As the mesh bags get full the paddlers meet with the Open Boats who have onboard the large green recycle bags on loan (along with the litter-picker grabs) from Plymouth City Council (Thank you!). Hence why you see in the photos the large green bags which are then strategically placed near the road side and, after a phone call, they are quickly collected by the Plymouth Council Street Services and taken to the recycling plant. Will we ever get to the stage where we don’t have to do this type of paddle? Will we see the day we don’t have to paddle through this pollution? In the meantime the Port of Plymouth Canoeing Association will continue to do our ‘Paddle trips with a difference, a paddle trip to make a difference’! Thank you to all who took part, and thank you to the Royal Navy and Plymouth City Council for your superb support.
