ModeratorWell here we are again another week with very little rain at the moment. I don’t think in the 30 plus years of paddling these rivers has it been so dry for so long. Two trips so far and we are nearly at the end of the second month ๐ ๐ ๐ Anyway lets see if we can make it this week, meet as usual at the old B&Q carpark Marsh Mills at 0845 hrs ready to leave at 0900 hrs.If you live nearer the venue please meet up at Holne Layby at 0930 hrs as we will be paddling the lower Dart from Holne Weir. If you are intending to come along please just leave a note on this topic or give me a ring just to give me an idea as to how many will be attending for safety cover. If you are visiting your Granny in Timbuktu on Sunday please give her my regards but I don’t really want to know thanks. If you are looking on the Environment Agency Austin Bridge River level guide our minimum will be .54m. At the moment it is reading .40m but this will change during the week Hopefully!!. The forecast for the week is set to get colder so bear this in mind. Plenty of warm clothes on the trip and plenty of dry kit when we get changed at the bottom along with a warm drink. There is a cafe where we can now get out where you can get warm food and drinks so bring some money with you if you wish to partake. ๐ ๐
I will update this as soon as I can on Saturday depending on what the levels are and will do this by 1800 hrs at the latest
Hope to see you all on Sunday ๐

ModeratorWell the level has gone from .63 at 0900 hrs this morning down to .59 this afternoon at Austin bridge but we have the forecast of another 6/7 hours of rain tonight so I do not see any problems in the morning for levels. As there are no beginners registered I am raising this up to Intermediate Level so we will now be doing the Loop. Its OK Louis you can still come along with us!! ๐ ๐ And yes Mike I remember your Granny always moaning about getting wet I think that’s why she emigrated. Good paddler though!!
Mad Jane is joining us along with George so see you all in the morning ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐
KenProspective BEGINNERS please note these trips are put on for your benefit during which a lot of people give up their own paddling time to come along to coach and look after you.The fact that not one Beginner has applied to come along this weekend is something else I have not experienced in my time on the rivers . I would and I am sure my colleagues also be interested to know why this is so and just to enquire whether there is any requirement to put any more of these Beginner trips on in the future. If you are an interested Beginner and wish to take part in these sessions please leave any comments regarding this on here so that we can plan for the future

KeymasterWell I suppose I’m a beginner intermediate and have not had the opportunity to check the forum. I’m certainly up for a paddle so will start (and hopefully complete!) the loop. Did it a couple of times last season but that seems a long time ago! I have no relatives in Mali.

ParticipantI am a white water beginner. I did few trips last year with Clive, Julie, and Buck. Which I really enjoyed, i felt safe and happy in this excitting environment. Plus everyone help with my heavy boat. So this year I hired a lighter boat from the club to help improve my skills. Unfortunately so far I haven’t be able to attend. As I work in retail which includes everyother full weekend including Sundays. So my 1st trip will be in February, as work rota clashes, dissapointed? Yes I am. Unfortunately for me work comes before play. I do feel very lucky that we have so many committed coaches that give up their time to help members like me to progress and improve their skills. So a big thank you. See you in February. Me I’m off to work now, I know what I would sooner be doing, have fun x

KeymasterHi Ken. We have hired out 4 or 5 club boats to beginners this year. Also I know of Honor who is wanting to try the rivers this year who has her own boat. She came into the shop yesterday getting new kit as a birthday present for in a couple weeks. She wants to come out after her birthday when she has the use of said kit.

ModeratorWell after all the weeks we have had with no rain, for 2 or 3 hours on Saturday night it just emptied down and we ended up with a level too high for a club paddle so this had to be cancelled even. This was then changed to a Friends paddle and a great time was had by all I think and like Mark has said it was good to catch up with you all again and thanks for your company! ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐
Well my comment regarding the Beginners Trips has been a pleasant surprise and thanks to Karen, Cassey and Andy for this and I take on board what you have said about your availability to do this and juggling your work commitments.
My thoughts on this are that I paddle most weekends and if the other coaches would be in agreement am prepared to run an extra trip to either accommodate the beginners or vice versa run an Intermediate trip which hopefully would get Karen on the water before February along with the rest of you. Otherwise you will only have a couple of weeks left in the season. Maybe if you could give me your availability dates we could plan something around them or at least it would give us an idea as to what requirements there are for the planning. Maybe some of you would like to come out every week which would also be great and I am sure we can accommodate something for that as well.
Rather than put your availability or request on here maybe you could text me or email me please and I will pass on the dates and info to the other coaches to see what we can do for you.
Thanks for taking the time to reply and hope to see you all on the rivers very soon ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐
Obviously if any of you white water coaches or helpers are reading this I would probably also really appreciate some assistance with this as well please.

InactiveHi Casey and Karen
As you both work not so social hours, when do you get free time as it may be possible to fit in a run of the Lower in the week as a friends paddle so you are not missing out on the Sunday trips.
