ParticipantHi all,
I’m running a 3 star sea kayak assessment on Sat 15 September.
Have a look at these 3 documents.
https://www.britishcanoeing.org.uk/uploads/courseDownloads/3-Star-Sea-Assessment-Notes.pdf
https://www.britishcanoeing.org.uk/uploads/courseDownloads/3-Star-Sea-Kayak-Syllabus.pdf
https://www.britishcanoeing.org.uk/uploads/courseDownloads/3-Star-Sea-Training-Notes.pdf
I draw your attention to 3 items.
1) In the syllabus you are asked to provide evidence of at least 3 different journeys on the sea, of about 3 hours (8kn) each.
2) The training notes give a comprehensive list of equipment.
3) There is no mention of any type of craft. General purpose kayaks are perfectly acceptable.
This assessment is free to PPCA members but assuming you are successful the charge for a certificate is £12 for British Canoeing members and £25 for non- British Canoeing members.
If you are intending to come along to this assessment please let me know.

ParticipantAt the moment there are 4 candidates for the last 3* ever sea kayak assessment. (Until the wind changes and BC decide to re-introduce it again.)
I will be sending details out to candidates by e-mail next week. If you intend coming along to this assessment and haven’t let me know yet please advise me by e-mail so that I can include you in my briefing.
Please don’t just turn up on the day expecting to be assessed.

ParticipantCongratulation to (in strictly alphabetical order) Colin Wilding, Karen Sargent, Morag Findlay and Tony Sicklemore, on passing their 3 star sea kayak assessment yesterday. (Sunday)
You don’t get a 3 star award without a fair bit of hard work so if you see these budding canoeing gods please feel free to grovel at their feet.
The only seals on display were of the flights of fancy variety, although some of our paddlers did do a fairly realistic impression during the rescues. .
