About the PPCA

Mount Batten Centre
Established in 1972 the Port of Plymouth Canoeing Association (PPCA) is a friendly and active canoe and kayak club who train and paddle all year round. Perfectly based at the Mount Batten Centre in Plymouth, we are a stone’s throw from the beautiful Plymouth Sound and other stunning coastlines, estuaries & rivers within Devon & Cornwall.

Established in 1972, we have approximately 150 members and with an age range from 10 upwards, indeed we currently have several members in their 80’s.

The club provides a busy year-wide programme and there is normally something for everyone. During the winter months there are river trips to experience the thrill of white water paddling, concurrently other paddlers will be out along the coast possibly in their sea kayaks. During April to September we concentrate on other training, be it in Open Canoes, Sit On Tops or General Purpose kayaks. We follow British Canoeing ( BC ) guidelines in our training programmes and help people progress in their abilities.

The PPCA operates as a ‘Not for Profit’ organisation, we have charity status and all of our coaches and assistants give up their spare time for free to run our training and other paddling sessions.
