Introductory Courses
Welcome to Port of Plymouth Canoeing Association's training
sessions.
If you are reading this, it probably means you want to learn
more about kayaking and canoeing and are thinking about taking
up the, well … what do we call it? A sport? A recreation?
A mind-expanding exploration of the coastal and inland waters
of the Westcountry? An adrenaline rush? A soul-enriching experience
that offers something for everyone, from calm, steady-paced
touring and exploring on placid waters to the challenge of kayaking
down white water or surfing the waves?
Call it what you will — we can help you develop your personal
paddling skills, teach you rescue and emergency drills, safety,
leadership and group skills but most of all, help you develop
the confidence to enjoy everything kayaking and canoeing can
offer a life lived to the full.
We run introductory courses throughout the summer months for
adults and young people, open to everyone aged from 12 upwards,
through our Introductory Membership scheme, which involves training
and assessment to British Canoe Union 1-star level (visit www.bcu.org.uk
awards to find out more about BCU star awards and what they
entail). These one-day courses are a great first step towards
becoming a competent paddler and run every Saturday from April
14 to September 29.
Once you have completed the 1-star award, you are invited to
join the PPCA as full members. The cost of the course includes
a great discount for reduced membership.
