Smeaton's Tower on Plymouth Hoe

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of paddling are there?

We offer a range of activities from recreational paddling to white-water action on rapids.

Recreational paddling is usually short trips on placid rivers or the sea in calm weather. It can extend to longer tours.

Sea Kayaking is a traditional part the club's activities. The proximity of Plymouth to the sea provides a great attraction for day trips, touring or expeditions. This can involve additional skills and knowledge specific to navigation, tides and the weather.

Sea kayaking can be extended into kayak surfing for the more energetic and adventurous.

White-water is where we play on higher gradient rivers and rapids. White-water is graded according to difficulty from Grade 1 to Grade 6. Grade 1 being the easiest level while Grade 6 is the most difficult and only for the real expert.

These areas of the sport overlap in many ways. They involve similar skills and they are all fun!
